A modest Westerville backyard, turned into a true outdoor living room. Pavers, a custom grill station, a gazebo, and a TV for game day, with room for the whole family at once.

Some backyards are for looking at. This one’s for living in.
We finished this one for a family in Westerville, and we’re sharing it on Father’s Day because it’s about as good a Father’s Day backyard as we’ve built. There’s a grill, a TV for the game, couches that actually get used, and a playset for the kids a few steps away.
The thing we like about it is that it isn’t a big lot. It’s a normal Westerville backyard. The whole job was taking the space they had and getting more out of every square foot of it.
It starts with the ground
The foundation is Unilock Beacon Hill pavers in Granite Fusion, a warm, layered stone color that anchors the space and shrugs off Ohio winters. Get the surface right and everything you set on top of it looks like it belongs. Get it wrong and no amount of nice furniture saves it.
Built for game day
From there it came together fast. A custom grill station topped with granite countertops. A cedar gazebo for shade and a little structure overhead. A mounted TV so nobody has to head inside when the game’s on. It turned into an outdoor kitchen and a living room that happens to be outside.
Room for everyone
The best part is how it works for the whole family at once. The adults can hang by the grill and the couches while the kids run around the playset, still in sight the whole time. Nobody has to pick between hosting and keeping an eye on the kids.
